In 1984, the mortuary was renamed Caldwell-Kirk Mortuary when Elvin Caldwell, Jr., purchased it and became president and general manager. When the trees at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery were planted over a century ago, they were arranged in clusters, rather than in rows or a grid pattern. With over 1,700 trees of 69 different species, Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery was declared an arboretum in 2007. The oldest section of the cemetery was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. The Columbine Memorial, honoring the teacher and 12 students who died on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School, is permanently housed at Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary & Cemetery.
